Iron Craft #10 - E is for...

This week's challenge:

"Ok you guys, I loved what you did so much with the letter “D” that I was really excited to move on and see what you could do with “E”. I have elevated expectations that everyone will engender excellent enterprises." (Courtesy of Just Crafty Enough)

"E" was more difficult than I had first imagined.

I thought and thought about this and came up with....

Here is my first attempt at a crocheted dress (with an Empire cut).

Aaaaaannnndddd... of course I have my camera in front of the empire waist part.

Better? Sorta...

Anyhoo - it was actually really easy to make. A lot of netting type rounds. I ended up putting ribbon through the middle to define the empire waist more than the pattern called for. I really don't like dress that just fit over me because they end up looking like a tent. So the ribbon was a much needed touch.

And for some reason, this photo doesn't want to rotate. Whatever. I'm the world's worst selfie taker. You get the idea. I'm very pleased with the way this turned out and will get lots of use out of it for sure this summer.

Here is the link to my Ravelry project page.

Iron Craft #9: Faux

This week's challenge:

"This week we want you to do a little crafting trickery and make something that looks like something it isn’t. I think this one should be fun!" (Courtesy of Just Crafty Enough)

Ok. I got this!

Is this a pretty bouquet of flowers? Obviously not. The flowers are most definitely crocheted. But that isn't the faux part.

This bouquet isn't a bouquet at all... it's a jar full of pens! :D

I made pretty carnations, daffodils, irises and daisies and added a pen to each as a stem. I think these are going to be teacher's end of year gifts this year. They are pretty and practical. :)

Sneaky eh?

The Snake Dens

This past weekend we decided to take our first family road trip of the season and visit the Narcisse Snake Dens.

Unfortunately, we went on Sunday (because I was a vendor at the WEST sale on Saturday) and the sun wasn't on our side that day.

We saw a few snakes, but not the enormous tangle of snakes that are usually around during this time of year. Not enough sun.

There was a lot of looking over the edge and pointing to some brave snakes that decided to come out to give us a show.

But all was not lost! We had a fun walk and a fun car ride and we ended our trip with a visit to Lane's favourite restaurant chain - this time in Gimli! :D

Crocheted Girly Leg Warmers

Now that it's spring, the weather is getting super nice.

Lane still has ballet class every Saturday morning until the middle of June and it's getting a little rough wearing heavy tights to class.

So I thought I'd make her some pretty leg warmers to wear instead.

She loves them! They only took a few hours to make and came out beautifully.

Lane wore them to school today and I think she'll be wearing them with her regular clothes a lot. I guess I'd better get on making some more in different colours if that's the case!

Do you wear leg warmers? I'm thinking that I might need a pair now too. They look so sweet and comfortable.
