Iron Craft #7: "D" is For...

This week's challenge:

"Last year we did challenge around the letters “A”, “B” and “C”. Let’s continue making our way through the alphabet with the letter “D”. Make a project using a technique, material or subject that begins with the letter “D”." (Courtesy of Just Crafty Enough)

Well... I thought of a few things. Maybe a dinosaur? Maybe something with a Damask pattern?

But then I settled on the most obvious...

I was lucky enough to get a huge box of vintage patterns from a friend of mine who was selling them off. There are tons of little girl dress patterns in the box, plus costumes, and... well just about everything. So Lane has been checking out all these patterns for a few weeks now and narrowed down her Easter dress selection to Simplicity 9777.

It had all the features she wanted: puppies, bows, and puffy sleeves. She also wanted it to be pink and have laneybugs (that is what Laney calls ladybugs).

So... even though this dress is a little too busy for my tastes, Lane absolutely adores it!

And I gotta admit, it's growing on me mostly because of her enthusiasm about getting to design her own dress pretty much.

The pattern was good. I love the fit of Simplicity patterns so I didn't make too many changes (which I know is really odd for me). Putting in the zipper didn't make me cry, so I say it's a win!

Lane will be wearing her dress to her spring school photos, so stay tuned for a pro shot of her looking all fancy in her poofy, puppy, laneybugged, pink bows dress.

Doesn't she look Deliciously Darling in her Designer Dress?

She obviously loves it which I think is a huge score when sewing for someone.
