Crocheted Elephant Lovey

Last week I was browsing around Ravelry trying to find the perfect gift for a new baby. One of my dearest friends is having a baby in July! So excited! I wanted the perfect gift.

That's when I came across a new trend in baby accessories called a Lovey.

Apparently these little baby blankets attached to a toy plushie are the latest thing. They are very cute, so I thought I'd give one a whirl.

Because the parents are waiting until baby is born to find out gender I figured that an elephant would be great for boy or girl.

I used yellow as the accent colour instead of the more traditional blue or pink.

I think this lovey turned out lovely heheehehe.

I used this pattern. It crocheted up in about 2 days. Really simple and straightforward, but oh so cute!

When I shared my new found interest in loveys and my new project on Facebook on the weekend I was happy to find out that loveys are magic.

A good friend of mine linked me to this article which outlines how to use a lovey like a magic tool to help your child sleep through the night, self soothe and even get off that pesky midnight feeding. WOWEE!!! I hope this lovey will have such a calming effect on the special new arrival when he/she comes into the world. :)

A very lovely lovey, as you said. With the soft, fluffy looking yarn, this looks like it will be a comfort to anyone who holds it. Even mama on one of those tough times when baby won't stop crying.
