This week our challenge was:
"I’ve been slowly going through clothes and getting rid of things that don’t fit or are out of style. It is amazing the amount of jeans I have that I don’t wear anymore. Most will be donated but I’m saving one pair for this challenge, make something with denim." (courtesy of Just Craft Enough)
I have been collecting a few weird pieces of denim lately, so I decided to make something out of them.
The first is a painted denim. Nice - but what on earth do you make with it?
That is probably why it was at the thrift store in the first place. The original owner didn't know what to make with it either.
And the second is a denim with a diamond pattern woven into it. I like it, but I don't have enough of it to make anything substantial.
So - what did I make?
Pretty pretty flowers!
I made these two first. I really like how sturdy they are with some felt added to the back. I handstitched the large one and machine sewed the smaller one.
Then I decided that the large one was a little too large, so I made a couple of smaller ones out of the painted denim as well.
I got lazy and machine sewed both of these.
I liked them so much that I made two more!
These ones are especially precious. I love the faux pearl in the centre.
But what on earth am I going to do with all these flowers?
I thought about it for a long time. Then I was also thinking about how I was going to upcyle a bunch of quilt squares cut out of vintage housewares that I found at the thrift store. Not enough to make a quilt, but enough to make a few Tawny Bee festival bags with!
I added the two projects together and placed a flower on the back of each bag.
Guess that means I better get to work on a few more flowers!
Do you have a favourite project to make with leftover denim? Do share!
