I was going through my Bloglovin' reader on the weekend and came across a post about spool knitting (this writer is also taking part in Project Project Runway and is awesome). I remembered doing this when I was a kid. Another one of those projects that my mom would pull out to distract me from getting into trouble hehehe.
In this post, it showed a homemade way to make a knitting spool. Cool! I wanted to try this craft out right away and of course it was Sunday evening and I couldn't just go out and buy a spool. Plus, I wasn't sure where I was going to go with this particular creation so I didn't want to spend any money yet.
I got out my ole' toilet roll and some wooden skewers and MacGyvered myself a spool.
Then I tried it out the way my mom taught me so many years ago. I can't believe that I actually remembered!
It doesn't take much time to make a beautiful tail of knitted pretty!
The yarn I'm using has Vanna White's picture on the label. I'm not sure what to think about that. Is she an avid knitter? Does she know a lot about yarn? meh... it's sparkly and soft - so win!
Now - what does spool knitting have to do with Macrame you ask?
Nothing much yet. But I'm planning on using these spool knitted strips combined with macrame to make something really awesome.
I guess you'll have to stay tuned to Macrame Monday to see what I'm planning. *wink*
Until then, you may ogle some really cute spool knitters that I found (and then pinned) from this shop on Etsy.
