Delightfully Tacky Hospital Slippers

I thought this was going to be the last sewing project I was going to show you before I go to Edmonton for surgery. But as I posted this morning, the surgery has been postponed until I recover from a nasty chest cold.

So I might just have to make a tacky hospital gown or robe to go with these tacky hospital slippers.

The pattern and design certainly isn't what makes these particular slippers tacky (I made them using the "guest slippers" pattern in Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross). I decided to use whatever I had in my stash that was small and funnily shaped. I found the reindeer fabric that I used for my brother in law's Christmas pajama pants.

I used what was left of my ric rak (only black was in the box). I used some soft fleece for the insides. I used leftover medal ribbon for the hang tags at the back.

Kinda tacky. But they're super comfy and fit my feet perfectly.

They'll be good enough to walk or shuffle around the hospital in while I recover. And I only changed the pattern a little. I added a pretty bow (to increase the tackiness) with a star bead on the front. And I used leftover vinyl for the sole instead of felted wool.

Yeah, I hand stitched the soles on. For a good part of the day Terry and I were both yelling, "My slipper has no sole! Ahhhhh, save my slipper's sole." hehehe. We're a barrel and a half of laughs over here. :P

Almost like old lady slippers huh? Sexy. I love 'em!

I'm glad you put the bows on so they look the right way round to you, not to anyone else!
