Project Upcycle Day 9 - Plaid Hair Accessories Tote and Cosmetics Pouch

Yesterday I asked what I would make out of this Plaid Orange wool skirt? I didn't give you a hint because I really couldn't think of a good one. Truth be known, this whole project was a bit of a struggle for me. It shouldn't have been, because I'm totally in love with this skirt. If it still fit after having two kids, I'd still be wearing it at least once a week. Unfortunately, I could keep it forever and never fit into it again, or make something cute out of it!

So my original thought was to make a nice big satchel to carry all my various kid related things in. You know, extra Kleenex, Band-Aids, cloths, baby wipes, candy, books, whatever. I even cut it out like that.

But then I discovered that it would be too flimsy to carry anything good in the shape I wanted. Boourns. So, I had decided earlier that I was going to make something to hold a bunch of hair accessories. I've about had it with all my stuff being strewn around the bathroom all the time and figured some other women out there had the same trouble.

So voila! I made a cute little tote. I can even stuff it with pantyhose, underwear, hair accessories, whatever I need and throw it in a suitcase if I ever go anywhere.

I had extra fabric at my disposal then and a matching zipper that was on the back of the skirt. So why not make a matching make-up case?
Pretty cute eh? I even put some of my fave make-up in it to take the picture.

*** A set (hair accessories tote and cosmetics pouch) will be listed at Tawny Bee for $22. Half the proceeds ($11) from the sale will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation as part of my Upcycle For Heart and Stroke 2010 campaign***

Stay tuned tomorrow where I will be making something out of this cutesy little dress that Laney has grown out of. It has bunnies and teapots on it and is way too cute not to be make into something fabulous. I'll also be incorporating some beige colour from the pants and using some plastic vinyl from this sheet packaging. Hint: I'm leaving on a jet plane....
